Detoxification pertains to the adequate metabolism of toxins through the liver and removal of these toxins from the body through the various elimination pathways. A toxin is any substance that has a detrimental effect on the body.
The importance of detoxification has been known since the time of the ancient Greeks. Hippocrates himself recommended fasting as a form of detoxification to improve health. The ability of the body to eliminate toxins is a key factor in overall health, given the chronic exposure to toxins in our environment, our foods and the medicines we take. Many chronic health conditions are a result of excess toxic load- chronic fatigue syndrome, conditions of pain (arthritis, fibromyalgia), immunosuppression, and cancer. The Metabolic Detoxification Program is a multi-level program to address toxic burden and excess oxidative stress in order to improve quality of life and decrease the risk of chronic disease.
Because cancer is associated with excess oxidative stress, one of the key elements in cancer prevention is undergoing regular detoxification. Please note that detoxification is contraindicated during conventional cancer treatment (chemo/radiation) as it affects the liver's ability to appropriately metabolize the drugs, and could increase toxicity or decrease efficacy of the treatment. Never embark on a detox prior to having a proper medical evaluation.
What does the our Detoxification Program entail?
Dr. Jamieson has designed a detox program that is adaptable to fit the needs of the patient. The detox program is innovative and varies in length (anywhere from several days to several months), frequency and intensity, depending on goals and outcomes.
Key elements that are used in the detox program are:
All patients begin with a detoxification consultation, in which they are given all the materials and instructions they need to follow the detox program.
