Dr. Shabita Teja, BScPharm, ND is a licensed pharmacist and naturopathic doctor with a special interest in gastrointestinal health and complex digestive conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), SIBO, chronic abdominal pain, and gut-brain axis concerns.

Dr. Teja graduated from CCNM Boucher in 2018 and brings a unique combination of pharmaceutical knowledge and naturopathic training to her practice. Her approach is individualized and evidence-informed, with a focus on understanding the many factors that can contribute to digestive symptoms and helping patients navigate complex or persistent GI concerns alongside their conventional medical care.

Her passion for gastrointestinal health is deeply personal. Dr. Teja was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 19 and underwent an ileostomy two years later, followed by J-pouch surgery four years after her diagnosis. Years later, after developing chronic abdominal pain and being diagnosed with central sensitization in 2011, Dr. Teja became the first patient in British Columbia to receive spinal cord stimulation for chronic abdominal pain. Her own experience navigating IBD, major gastrointestinal surgery, chronic symptoms, and recovery has given her a unique understanding of the physical and emotional challenges that can accompany complex digestive conditions. These experiences have shaped her passion for helping patients feel heard, understand the connection between the gut, immune system, and nervous system, and develop practical strategies to support their health.

Dr. Teja is also a part-time faculty member at CCNM Boucher, where she has served as a clinical supervisor and continues to teach a variety of academic courses. She was previously the owner of Sinclair Wellness Centre, which closed in July 2025, and currently practices here at Polo Health. When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Teja is busy running around after her two boys – age 5 & 3yrs old, together with her partner Aleem, where they live in a family friendly neighbourhood in Ladner.
